With inflation still prevalent in the U.S. market, it comes at no surprise that transportation services are desperately needed to ease the burden of shortages due to high demand. Many transportation companies are in need of hard-working employees to join their teams to help keep them afloat during this time. CDL Driver

CDL drivers are one of the most in-demand workers in the transportation industry. According to our data, there has been a 3% increase in CDL driving positions in the last month. CDL drivers transport goods using tractor trailers over short or long-distances. These drivers must unload the goods at the location timely and efficiently. Qualifications for a CDL driver include being 18 years of age to drive within state lines, 21 years to drive across state lines, obtain a class A or class B CDL license, proof of citizenship, complete a DOT physical, no outstanding suspensions on your license(s), and must pass a background check.

Delivery Driver

According to our data, delivery drivers have seen a 9% increase in demand. Delivery drivers are responsible for transporting packages and other goods from a mail facility to a personal residence or business. They must load and unload goods, know how to use GPS or other navigation tools to get from point A to point B, and deliver goods in-tact in a timely manner. Qualifications for a delivery driver must include a valid driver’s license or CDL license, ability to lift heavy cargo, clean driving record, and excellent time management skills. 

Warehouse Associate

Although warehouse associate positions are widely available in many different fields, they are in high demand in the transportation industry with a 10% increase in available jobs. A warehouse associate assists behind the scenes fulfilling the logistics of receiving, processing and storing inventory. They manage shipping schedules, and assist with loading and unloading inventory. Anyone with a high school diploma can be a warehouse associate, but they must possess great teamwork, organizational, communication, and time management skills.

Service Technician 

Service technicians are also in demand with a 24% increase in job availability. Service technicians have a wide variety of knowledge and use their expertise to diagnose and make repairs on trucks and other vehicles that a transportation service may need fixed. The only requirement to become a service technician is a high school diploma, but if you wish to continue your education a technical certificate or associate’s degree would be appropriate for this role. You must also have good time management, communication, and interpersonal skills. 

Coordinator

Similar to the warehouse associate role, coordinators are in demand in a variety of different industries. Recently they have become even more in demand in the transportation industry with a 20% increase in hiring volume. The transportation coordinator is responsible for managing timely deliveries by tracking shipping logistics, assigning routes to drivers, and ensuring all deadlines are met. Coordinators typically don’t need a college degree, but having one may give you a leg-up on the competition. Customer service experience is usually required, and you must have good communication, time management, and organizational skills.
